Dr. Jeff Meilander

Jeff is a Research Scientist and Program Manager at Northern Arizona University, educator, and sustainability advocate with more than two decades of experience in science education across K–12 and higher education as well as community service. He brings expertise in mentoring students, developing hands-on curricula, and creating learning opportunities that connect science with real-world environmental and sustainability challenges. He has volunteered on farms in Europe and South America through the WWOOF organization which inspired him to start his own nonprofit sustainability education farm called the Flagstaff EcoRanch. The educational programming conducted at the farm engaged over 1000 students and community members.

Jeff values Pine Forest’s philosophy, particularly its strong connection to nature, low-stress learning environment, diverse student activities, and focus on developing the whole child. He appreciates the school’s commitment to fostering curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning in every student.

Outside of his professional work, Jeff enjoys spending time in nature through backpacking, hiking, mountain biking, growing food, and playing hockey. He also previously served as Vice President of the Board of Directors for Tynkertopia, a nonprofit STEAM center. Jeff is passionate about bringing his experiences and his love of education to his role on the Pine Forest Board, supporting teachers, students, parents, and administrators to ensure the school has a lasting positive impact on the Flagstaff community.
